The eSkills Malta Foundation is a National Coalition made up of various representatives from government, industry and education, who can contribute to the increase in digital skills and the development of the IT profession and help us with the following mandates:
• to advise government and relevant stakeholders on matters related to eSkills policies;
• to contribute to the expansion of ICT educational programmes and related formative initiatives;
• to lead an ICT professionalism development programme;
• to instigate further reform in the ICT educational offerings and contribute to capacity-building of the ICT education community, and finally;
• to champion campaigns and promote the Maltese eSkills potential locally and internationally.
International best practises indicate that multi-sectoral partnerships are one of the key approaches in achieving synergy in the sustainable development of the right digital skills. The eSkills Malta Foundation was established by the Maltese government to reflect this paradigm of inclusive synergy. The Founding members of the foundation are the Ministry for Education and Employment, the Malta Information Technology Agency, the Malta Communications Authority, the Malta Enterprise, The Malta Gaming Authority and The Malta Chamber of Commerce Enterprise and Industry.
The general aim of the foundation is the expansion and sustainable growth of the ICT skills in Malta through the development of a broad set of skills from early on in life, throughout their career and employment which will ultimately boost employability, competitiveness and growth in the Digital Economy. We collaborate with our founder members and other local and foreign organisations to achieve this more effectively.
Advising government and stakeholders on eSkills policy is high on our agenda, as is acquiring intelligence on the subject matter and EU best practices. The foundation is the national representative in the European Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition. The coalition recognises that people with strong eSkills will play a central role in the European Digital economy. The foundation launched the National eSkills Strategy in 2019 and several other studies.
Through various initiatives, the eSkills Malta Foundation contributes to the expansion of ICT education across all levels. Some of these include the school visits to ICT industry by students and teachers, ICT career training to Careers Advisors, further moulding of tertiary education to the industry skills requirement, promoting the ICT profession with the scope of increasing the number of students. The lack of ICT practitioners and professionals and their quality heavily affects the economy and the industry. Thus, the foundation promotes the e-Competence Framework and other European standards.

The Malta Hotels & Restaurants Association was formed in 1958. The promoters’ intention was to unite all those who own, manage or operate a hotel or restaurant, and to counsel and represent them. The industry, then just a fledgling, desperately required unity of purpose and strategy.
The newly formed Association sought incessantly to direct successive administrations towards recognising the benefits of a successful tourism industry. It also worked hard in the interests of its members, who required the umbrella protection of a strong and cohesive union to represent them.
The attainment of Independence in 1964 heralded a wave of confidence in the Island’s potential as a holiday destination. The MHRA was not slow to seize upon the opportunity to press for improvements in its industry. Hotels started sprouting throughout our Islands and the number of beds trebled. The increase in the number of restaurants was commensurate to the increase in tourists and the prosperity of the locals.
The seventies and early eighties witnessed increasing growth in the Maltese tourism industry, and Malta started diversifying into new markets. Further growth was achieved in the nineties with the introduction of a number of hotels in the five and four star categories, and a number of gourmet restaurants and food chains.
The Association encouraged its members to build good quality properties, and keep an ever-watchful eye on the standards of service. On the other hand, it sought with some success to persuade government to invest in infrastructural facilities, which would complement the members’ investments. Thus, airport facilities, roads, beach cleaning, proper sign posting, staff training through the Institute of Tourism Studies and many other components of the industry were built following the intervention of the Association.
As the major Association in the tourism sector, the MHRA represents the interests of its members on several important national policy making bodies, including the board of the Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development. In addition, the Association maintains close contact with government departments and ministries, keeping them aware of the problems facing this industry from time to time. The Association’s endeavours and achievements assures it a place amongst the more important constituted bodies in Malta. Its contribution towards the improvement of the industry remains continuous and valuable. The vast majority of hotels and restaurants in the Maltese Islands, which are its members, confirm its place of importance amongst Malta’s employers’ unions.
Today, MHRA has also a good number of Associate Partners whose activities are closely linked to the Tourism Sector. Their support is invaluable in sustaining MHRA as a strong lobby group to ensure the growth of the tourism activity. Besides, they benefit from a number of incentives to improve their particular business. The Tourism Industry is today considered all over the world as the motor behind each country’s economy and therefore it operators is highly competitive market place. Malta needs to be proactive to continue to build a sustainable tourism industry and this can only be achieved through unity of all the players in the Industry working in harmony to reach the required growth through a common goal. MHRA aims to achieve this goal.

Mike began his foundation into business at Newcastle University business school where he read for a master’s degree in e-Business & Marketing at a time when the e-business platform was booming.
His experience ranges from business consultancy, brand management, business management and project management, to a number of sales jobs in restaurants and telecommunications when he was a teenager. Mike’s love for brand strategy stemmed from his time working with a flavoured coffee company back in Newcastle called Beanies – The Flavour Co. Working under the leadership of John (a.k.a. old bean!) he quickly understood that this is what he wants to be focussing on throughout his career, moving back to Malta with a fresh vision on how to do great things for great brands.

The Foto Grafer
The Foto Grafer Ltd is Malta’s largest professional photographic establishment serving numerous local and overseas clients with Commercial, Architectural, Industrial, Weddings and Portrait photography.
The studio is owned and managed by Paul and Mariella Mizzi, both highly qualified and experienced photographers who have won awards and continuously share their experience with many other international photographers all over the world. They are qualified members of the British Institute of Professional Photography, The Royal Photographic society of Great Britain, The Masters Photographers Association, The Society of Weddings and Portraits Photographers as well as being certified by the certification board of the Professional Photographers of America.
The two adjacent buildings house two independent studios which are equipped with Hasselblad cameras and adorned by a multitude of pro lighting, thus being able to handle many types and magnitudes of assignments. All raw materials are imported directly to ensure that the company’s standards of quality are maintained throughout the whole process. A team of 12 employees work according to a busy schedule in the digital retouching department, photographic laboratory, large format digital printing station together with a state-of-the-art finishing department thus ensuring unmatched quality and service.
