Digital Guru

Digital Guru is a full service digital marketing agency based on the idyllic Mediterranean island of Malta. We are all about helping individuals, small businesses and companies move forward by providing total solutions in relation to all aspects of their online identity and presence.

Over the past ten years or so we’ve seen some big changes in the way technology has affected the way we do things – both on a personal and business level. Keeping up with these fast-moving changes (let alone keeping ahead!) is a constant battle which takes time, research and dedication.

Getting someone to help out is usually a case of ‘You need a website’ or ‘You need to be on social media’, being sold a one-off product, usually with no after-sales which by the time you get the hang of (if you actually manage) is already ‘yesterdays thing’ and does not provide results. This leaves a bitter taste in your mouth so the next time someone comes to enlighten you, you’re already apprehensive to invest more time and money. So instead of embracing technology people have kept it at arms length.

Having met so many who have been on this carousel we felt that there was a need for honest, genuine and friendly advice to help individuals and companies make technology work for their success. Quite simply at our core this is what we do at Digital Guru….helping those around us make the most of technology!

eSkills Malta Foundation

The eSkills Malta Foundation is a National Coalition made up of various representatives from government, industry and education, who can contribute to the increase in digital skills and the development of the IT profession and help us with the following mandates:

• to advise government and relevant stakeholders on matters related to eSkills policies;
• to contribute to the expansion of ICT educational programmes and related formative initiatives;
• to lead an ICT professionalism development programme;
• to instigate further reform in the ICT educational offerings and contribute to capacity-building of the ICT education community, and finally;
• to champion campaigns and promote the Maltese eSkills potential locally and internationally.

International best practises indicate that multi-sectoral partnerships are one of the key approaches in achieving synergy in the sustainable development of the right digital skills. The eSkills Malta Foundation was established by the Maltese government to reflect this paradigm of inclusive synergy. The Founding members of the foundation are the Ministry for Education and Employment, the Malta Information Technology Agency, the Malta Communications Authority, the Malta Enterprise, The Malta Gaming Authority and The Malta Chamber of Commerce Enterprise and Industry.
The general aim of the foundation is the expansion and sustainable growth of the ICT skills in Malta through the development of a broad set of skills from early on in life, throughout their career and employment which will ultimately boost employability, competitiveness and growth in the Digital Economy. We collaborate with our founder members and other local and foreign organisations to achieve this more effectively.

Advising government and stakeholders on eSkills policy is high on our agenda, as is acquiring intelligence on the subject matter and EU best practices. The foundation is the national representative in the European Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition. The coalition recognises that people with strong eSkills will play a central role in the European Digital economy. The foundation launched the National eSkills Strategy in 2019 and several other studies.

Through various initiatives, the eSkills Malta Foundation contributes to the expansion of ICT education across all levels. Some of these include the school visits to ICT industry by students and teachers, ICT career training to Careers Advisors, further moulding of tertiary education to the industry skills requirement, promoting the ICT profession with the scope of increasing the number of students. The lack of ICT practitioners and professionals and their quality heavily affects the economy and the industry. Thus, the foundation promotes the e-Competence Framework and other European standards.

Since our launch in 2006 we have dealt with tens of millions of searches and brought vital information to many millions of users. Findit is firmly established as the leading Maltese business directory and the number of people visiting the site continues to grow every year. As does the number of companies listed on it. But we haven’t rested on our laurels.

Findit has recently undergone a major overhaul adding a whole host of new features making it an even more valuable tool for thousands of people who use it every day.

Among the key changes is the introduction of our Deals section that allows you to see which companies are currently running special offers or sales. We have also added a Brands search to the site so you can quickly track down the specific brand you are after. And the individual listings themselves are now even more detailed and include multiple addresses, opening hours, multiple contact names, additional photos and even video links.

In short, a damned fine website just got a whole lot better.

We have gone to great lengths to make sure the all new findit is the first and last website you will need while looking for products or services in Malta.

As an entity, GasanMamo firmly believes that the only way to build and maintain successful long-term relationships with customers is to provide the best possible service at all times. The company believes in unwavering promptness, efficiency and professionalism, delivered by a highly capable and well-trained team of staff members.

The company traces its long history all the way back to 1947, when Galdes & Mamo was originally formed and appointed as the Maltese agent for the London & Lancashire, a London based insurance company that later formed part of the Royal Insurance Group.

In 1970 Gasan Insurance Agency was established and appointed as representative in Malta for General Accident also known as GAFLAC. Gasan Insurance Agency and Galdes & Mamo Ltd developed into leading insurance providers in Malta. 1999 saw the merger of these two agency operations and the formation of GasanMamo Insurance Agency Ltd. In retrospect this was the start of a series of changes that would have a profound effect on the Company and the way it is perceived. The merger created a huge impetus that caused GMI to surge forward in terms of size and stature within the Maltese insurance market.

Having allowed for the full integration of the two organisations in 2002, the Board and Management were ready for another fundamental change. This change occurred on January 1st, 2003, when GasanMamo Insurance ceased to represent CGU Insurance plc and matured into a fully-fledged insurance underwriting company, officially granted a licence by the MFSA to operate as an underwriter for General Insurance.

GasanMamo Insurance Ltd has a Board of Directors whose members have a wealth of experience in the world of business, insurance and financial services both locally and abroad. The Board is chaired by Joseph Gasan, the Chairman of the Gasan Group of Companies whilst Julian J Mamo is the Managing Director.

The Company is managed by a close knit, dedicated and experienced team which is led by Julian J Mamo as Managing Director. All divisions are led by experienced General Managers and supported by well-trained and qualified personnel. The current head count is in the region of one hundred and fifty employees. Training and development is a fundamental pillar of the GMI ethos ensuring that we provide added value to all our clients.

GasanMamo Insurance operates from a Head Office in Msida Road Gzira, with eleven strategically located branch offices and a wide network of TIIs and an Agent throughout Malta and Gozo. In addition, GasanMamo Insurance enjoys an excellent relationship with all leading insurance brokers.

GasanMamo also operates under the Freedom of Establishment in Cyprus and Freedom of Services in France and Greece.

Nowadays, GasanMamo is one of Malta’s leading insurance companies, providing competitively priced insurance products for both personal and commercial clients. With a robust product range, excellent and professional service and a high profile, GasanMamo Insurance looks to the future with confidence in the insurance market and its ability to perform the standards that ensure it stands out from the crowd.

The role of the employer carries with it the burden of many responsibilities emanating from the employer-worker relationships within the company. These responsibilities entail critically sensitive elements such as employee relations, relations with government bodies and interpretation of legislation.

Regardless of whether the employer is a large corporation or a small office business, unless these elements are handled competently and professionally they can pose a serious threat of employee unrest, with its negative impact on the Company’s performance and reputation.

In the volatile arenas of industrial relations and social policy, an employer requires immediate expert advice and effective action. It is clear that there is much advantage in fostering an organised unity between all employees.

Through this unity comes individual strength.
This is the raison d’être of the Malta Employers’ Association.

The Malta Hotels & Restaurants Association was formed in 1958. The promoters’ intention was to unite all those who own, manage or operate a hotel or restaurant, and to counsel and represent them. The industry, then just a fledgling, desperately required unity of purpose and strategy.

The newly formed Association sought incessantly to direct successive administrations towards recognising the benefits of a successful tourism industry. It also worked hard in the interests of its members, who required the umbrella protection of a strong and cohesive union to represent them.

The attainment of Independence in 1964 heralded a wave of confidence in the Island’s potential as a holiday destination. The MHRA was not slow to seize upon the opportunity to press for improvements in its industry. Hotels started sprouting throughout our Islands and the number of beds trebled. The increase in the number of restaurants was commensurate to the increase in tourists and the prosperity of the locals.

The seventies and early eighties witnessed increasing growth in the Maltese tourism industry, and Malta started diversifying into new markets. Further growth was achieved in the nineties with the introduction of a number of hotels in the five and four star categories, and a number of gourmet restaurants and food chains.
The Association encouraged its members to build good quality properties, and keep an ever-watchful eye on the standards of service. On the other hand, it sought with some success to persuade government to invest in infrastructural facilities, which would complement the members’ investments. Thus, airport facilities, roads, beach cleaning, proper sign posting, staff training through the Institute of Tourism Studies and many other components of the industry were built following the intervention of the Association.

As the major Association in the tourism sector, the MHRA represents the interests of its members on several important national policy making bodies, including the board of the Malta Tourism Authority and the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development. In addition, the Association maintains close contact with government departments and ministries, keeping them aware of the problems facing this industry from time to time. The Association’s endeavours and achievements assures it a place amongst the more important constituted bodies in Malta. Its contribution towards the improvement of the industry remains continuous and valuable. The vast majority of hotels and restaurants in the Maltese Islands, which are its members, confirm its place of importance amongst Malta’s employers’ unions.

Today, MHRA has also a good number of Associate Partners whose activities are closely linked to the Tourism Sector. Their support is invaluable in sustaining MHRA as a strong lobby group to ensure the growth of the tourism activity. Besides, they benefit from a number of incentives to improve their particular business. The Tourism Industry is today considered all over the world as the motor behind each country’s economy and therefore it operators is highly competitive market place. Malta needs to be proactive to continue to build a sustainable tourism industry and this can only be achieved through unity of all the players in the Industry working in harmony to reach the required growth through a common goal. MHRA aims to achieve this goal.

From a very young age, Mike always demonstrated a curious mind for all things business; from trying to trade his lego blocks for money at home in Malta, to exchanging sea-shells collected during a family holiday in Scotland for sweets.

Mike began his foundation into business at Newcastle University business school where he read for a master’s degree in e-Business & Marketing at a time when the e-business platform was booming.

His experience ranges from business consultancy, brand management, business management and project management, to a number of sales jobs in restaurants and telecommunications when he was a teenager. Mike’s love for brand strategy stemmed from his time working with a flavoured coffee company back in Newcastle called Beanies – The Flavour Co. Working under the leadership of John (a.k.a. old bean!) he quickly understood that this is what he wants to be focussing on throughout his career, moving back to Malta with a fresh vision on how to do great things for great brands.

At ZAAR we believe that great ideas should go far, and it is our mission to provide the space for that to happen. We strive towards standing by our values in order to offer the best space for idea creatives and supporters to contribute to our platform.
The Malta Business Bureau and the University of Malta have set up the Foundation for the Promotion of Entrepreneurial Initiatives. ZAAR is the first offering: a donation/reward-based crowdfunding platform, to promote entrepreneurship in Malta and support local start-ups. ZAAR offers an alternative to raise finance for their projects and business ideas.
